OSCEOLA COUNTY UPDATE FOR HURRICANE

SELF-SERVE SANDBAG DISTRIBUTION INFORMATION

1st location: TUESDAY OCT. 7TH

• Hours of Operation: 9 a.m. to 12:00pm, Monday, October 7

2nd location: Opens TUESDAY OCT. 7TH

• Celebration Athletic & Recreation Complex, 305 Campus St, Kissimmee, FL 34747
• Hours of Operation: 7:30 a.m. until sandbags run out or 12:00pm

Bags and sand will be provided. Supplies are limited, and sandbags will be available for filling on a first-come, first-served basis. Please bring your own tools to fill the bags including a shovel. Residents who still have uncontaminated sandbags from previous distributions earlier this year are strongly encouraged to reuse those sandbags. Volunteers will be on site to help those that may need it.

TOLLS:

ALL tolls are suspended to help assist during hurricane Milton for evacuations.

Shelters:

At this time, no evacuations are in effect for Osceola County. However, residents who live in low-lying or flood-prone areas – or in homes with potential structural issues – should have an evacuation plan ready. The following shelters will open at 8 a.m. Wednesday, October 9, for residents who need a safer place to ride out the storm.

• Liberty High School (Pet-Friendly) – 4250 Pleasant Hill Rd., Kissimmee, FL 34746

A shelter for those with special medical needs will open at 3 p.m. on Tuesday, October 8, at the Osceola Council on Aging, 700 Generation Point, Kissimmee, FL 34744.

Residents who wish to evacuate are encouraged to make arrangements to ride out the storm with friends or family, or consider staying in a hotel, if possible. Shelters are available to all residents who need them, but should be considered a last resort. People arriving at shelters are asked to bring items that will help make their stay comfortable such as blankets, sleeping bags, pillows, books, quiet games, and battery-powered radios. Those on prescription medication are strongly urged to bring adequate supplies with them.

Office Closures & School Closures

Osceola County, City of Kissimmee, and City of St. Cloud government offices will be closed Wednesday and Thursday, October 9-10, due to Hurricane Milton.

Leaders want residents to be aware that the time to enact their disaster preparedness plan is NOW. Based on the storm’s current forecast path, residents are encouraged to be in the place where they plan to ride out the storm by Tuesday evening.
