Hundreds of cyclists participate in 5th Annual Tour Latino

Cyclists gathered to pull for small business at the 2018 sports fundraiser benefiting Prospera

Expert and beginner cyclists from across Florida and beyond came together on Sunday, Feb. 11 for the fifth annual Tour Latino benefiting Prospera. The fundraiser attracted nearly 550 athletes between 16 and 77 years of age and with diverse backgrounds to ride their bikes and support the nonprofit organization. The out-of-state participants traveled from Alabama, Illinois, Michigan, North Carolina, South Carolina, New York, Ohio, Pennsylvania, Texas, Virginia, Wisconsin, Puerto Rico, and even Canada. Tour Latino raises funds to help Prospera continue serving Hispanic entrepreneurs as they build new and stronger businesses in Florida.
Before dawn on Sunday, the cyclists and their families gathered at Clermont Waterfront Park to pull for small businesses and celebrate with music, food and activities at the park. Prospera Vice President for Central Florida Gaby Ortigoni kicked off the event, welcoming participants, thanking sponsors and volunteers, and offering special recognition to event Breakaway Sponsors Conrad Santiago & Associates with Ameriprise Financial and Univision Orlando. Cyclists then departed in groups for five different bike routes: 10, 25, 50, 70, and 100-mile rides across and around hilly Clermont.
Throughout the morning and early afternoon, Prospera volunteers and employees dedicated themselves to assisting the cyclists at strategic locations around the park and along the routes. Once riders crossed the finish line, they each received a participation medal, recovered from the challenging rides, and enjoyed lunch donated by Zaza New Cuban Diner as well as the Latin-themed celebration, exhibits, prize drawings and children’s play area. Univision Orlando News Anchor Paul Gamache led the afternoon awards ceremony, which included the presentation of placement medals to 50, 70 and 100-mile route cyclists with the best combined times per gender and age category.
2018 Tour Latino was held thanks to generous sponsors, including Conrad Santiago & Associates with Ameriprise Financial, Univision Orlando, 98.1 Salsa y Mas, Florida Hospital, Zaza New Cuban Diner, Orlando Health, OUC – The Reliable One, Fifth Third Bank, Marchena & Graham PA, University of Central Florida, Walt Disney World Parks & Resorts, Orange Cycle, Bank of America, Rosen Hotels, El Osceola Star, La Prensa and others.
